That Thing

The New EP
That Thing – EP is a powerful meeting of roots, soul and modern reggae energy from Mungo's Hi Fi and Aziza Jaye. Released on 19 February 2026 via Scotch Bonnet Records, the project blends reggae, soul and hip-hop influences into a warm, bass-driven soundscape.
At the heart of the EP is a reimagining of Doo Wop (That Thing) by Lauryn Hill. Rather than a straight cover, Aziza Jaye reshapes the classic through her own lens, weaving new melodies and personal lyrics into the timeless message. Her soulful vocal delivery sits effortlessly over Mungo’s Hi Fi’s signature reggae production, creating a version that feels both nostalgic and refreshingly new.
The EP also features deeper sound system moments, including the heavyweight dub version “That Dub,” where the rhythm is stripped back and rebuilt with echo, space and rolling basslines — a nod to classic Jamaican dub traditions while keeping a contemporary edge.
Across the project, Aziza Jaye’s “genre-less” style shines through. Her blend of reggae roots, soul emotion and hip-hop attitude pairs naturally with Mungo’s Hi Fi’s globally respected sound system aesthetic, resulting in a release that feels equally at home on a festival stage, in a dancehall session or through late-night headphones.
That Thing – EP celebrates musical heritage while pushing it forward — a soulful collaboration that bridges generations, genres and cultures through rhythm, message and unmistakable groove.
